Online Degrees and
Distance Learning
You Can Get Your College Degree Online
Online degrees seem to be the way to go today. Getting an Online Degree is more convenient time wise, and more cost effective. For
one thing, if you are already working job, they give you the ability to work at you own pace and own
convenience.
If you have children, you don't have to worry about a baby-sitter because you can do your work
at home because you never have to leave the house or go to a brick and mortar school campus. There are exceptions:
you could have to atten a campus periodically to meet with a teacher or discuss curriculum and grades, but most of
the time it is done at home through your computer.
This is not to say you don't need discipline; it requires much discipline. You have to be a
determined self-starter and committed to your goal. But earning an online degree can save you lots of money on
campus housing fees and often times even in books and tuition. Let's face it, if you're not taking up space on
campus, it's less expensive for the college to teach you.
A close relative of an online college degree is Distance Learning. It can be the same thing, but typically
distance learning is considered to be a situation in which you get a degree, or further education in a specific
subject, rather than a complete degree in a particular area. It's more like further education than a full blown
degree. But again, the terms are somewhat interchangeable and no one would fault you for using them either
way.
An example of what I'm saying is that on an online degree might consist of an associates degree,
a bachelor's degree, etc., while distance learing might involve taking a course your employer wants you to take to
get a better position in the company; or maybe it's a class you need to complete a degree that you have been
working towards.
It's kind of a matter of semantics, but they do techinically have different meanings. Getting a
distance learning degree online can be a very quick and affordable way to brush up on a few subjects or finish
something you started and never completed.
